The life of a winter butterfly is one that is not simple,
No, it does not have to deal with wrinkles and pimples
It flies endlessly so brave and so bold
Subconsciously through harsh winter cold

It endures the chill, mind over matter
Going through forests, and cities, and pastures
While it passes a stranger, not thinking of any danger
Lands near, flutters its wings and dances

And seeing the dance the people smile
For they haven't seen a butterfly in a long while
Seeing one brings such joy to the heart
A warm exhale gives the butterfly a lift, a start

The butterfly lives to bring a smile to a face
As it journeys from place to place
The warmth it receives, helps it and all to believe
That it will reach another

This is the poem I put on a card being sent to Addie Fausett, a girl fighting an atrophy in her brain. Doctors say that this is most likely her last Christmas, so her parents wanted to give her "a lifetime of Christmas cards".

  • Reading: Over this poem before I send it
Down the rabbit hole: Rabbit hole Found it...
